Make sure your film meets our one CREATIVE REQUIREMENT:

Each submission must feature a reference to The Fresno Bee– either our digital platforms, or the print version.
(Examples: An actor making reference to The Fresno Bee; a newspaper seen lying on a table; a close up of our iPad application.)

Animated Short (2 minute max):
Qualified entries in the Animated Short category include films created using 2D or 3D computer animation programs, as well as those that employ stop-motion animation, such as puppet animation, clay animation, brickfilm, cut-out animation and other such frame-by-frame animation. Like all other categories, these entries will be expected to tell a story.

Music Video (3 minute max):
Qualified entries in the Music Video category include both original works and covers of current songs, performed by students. These entries are interpretive, but still tell a story. Karaoke is not allowed. Students must comply with copyright law. Got questions? Check out: “Copyright and what it means.”

Drama (5 minute max):
Qualified entries in the Drama category will tell a story in a serious in tone and depict an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances.

Comedy (5 minute max):
Qualified entries in the Comedy category will tell a story that is characterized by a humorous or satirical tone.

Documentary (5 minute max):
Qualified entries in the Documentary category will be factually based. They will introduce a subject, support the subject and come to a conclusion.

ALL ENTRIES MUST COMPLY with the moral guidelines of the student’s school and be suitable for a general public viewing audience.  As defined by the Motion Picture Association of America, a “General Audience” rating is as follows:

G — General Audiences. All Ages Admitted. A G-rated motion picture contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex, violence or other matters that, in the view of the Rating Board, would offend parents whose younger children view the motion picture. The G rating is not a “certificate of approval,” nor does it signify a “children’s” motion picture. Some snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation but they are common everyday expressions. No stronger words are present in G-rated motion pictures. Depictions of violence are minimal. No nudity, sex scenes or drug use are present in the motion picture.

Profanity, extreme violence, content of a sexual nature and depictions of blood are prohibited.

Additionally, entries must also comply with The Fresno Bee’s Terms of Service Online Conduct guideline: “Content that is harmful to minors in any way, harassing, harmful, threatening, abusive, vulgar, obscene, defamatory, libelous, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable” will be immediately disqualified.
